Kitcheree is OVER!!

Hello, people! I finished the detox diet yesterday!

This morning, I had the usual fruit & yoghurt breakfast followed by a... Cappuccino and a sweet from Aveiro ;) (ovos moles... :-) ) The sweet was great but the coffee was... disappointing. Smelled better and tasted like... I don't know, not as interesting as I expected.

I'll keep on eating kitcheree for a few days as it's really practical while you're studying / working and don't want to stop and cook. (I have already prepared some last Friday and I have a microwave ;))

Kitcheree 2007 - recipes and temptations

After checking last year's notes (here), I think this year I did pretty well, less temptations and certainly less 'faults'.
I now have 3 days until the end of the diet, which means I've followed it for 48 days so far, with two days in the middle where I 'slipped'... :)

- day 1 - basic soup, onions, carrots, parsnip, bit of cabbage.
- day 5 - kitcheree curry with celery and leek. :s I decided I will never buy that mix again, unbearably bitter!
- day 7 - lunch at F & D's place. First temptation: buttery toasts... but I resisted!
- day 9 - the third time you can't miss! Absolutely great! with mushrooms (hmmm..) and I added a bit more spices, to make it more interesting.
- day 11 - I dreamt I was having a large café au lait, had first ordered a croissant but then settled for a nice homemade bread sandwich with cheese... Only 'remembered' I couldn't be having that when the sandwich was almost over (all in the dream). I wake up, have my youghurt with banana slices and a pear and, in the evening, the mentioned 'chocolate breakdown', which made me restart the 40-day cycle.
- a few days after, I repeated the mushrooms recipe, but did a little sauté with onions and wild mushrooms first (no grease, just pepper, basil and nutmeg) and only then added it to the stew. Yummyy!!
- day 18 (phase I), day 5 (phase II) - another birthday... :s and G.'s Ferrari cake looked delicious! but I didn't touch it.
- other recipes: carrots and broccoli with pepper, nutmeg, ginger and a bit of paprika; okra curry; carrots and zucchini seasoned with cinnamon, hhmmm...; adding some fresh coriander in the end is always a good idea.

April's mood

... that lasted until last week.
More than the music, more than the lyrics, it was a state of mind, a state of heart, a state of the soul...
So... the 'list' below is a sort of soundtrack to my state of being during April.

Snow Patrol: Chasing cars

Keane: Nothing in my way and (always, always, always) Crystal Ball.

Coldplay: The scientist (lyrics) and The Hardest part

Nickelback: If everyone cared, Far Away

And Crowded House. Any. Throw your arms around me might be the more adequate. And Don't dream it's over, of course (I used to listen to this music on the school radio, when I was like 12 years old...).

Oh, and James Morrison's You give me something.

Prendas do Universo

My divine inspiration...

What's Your Divine Inspiration?
Test taken 3 weeks ago. I think it actually 'fits' me.
Enjoy your weekend!

Take this test at Tickle

You're divinely inspired when it comes to Culture!

Get up and go? You've got it. You enjoy new experiences and new people because you are inspired by how others view the world. You're not only curious, you allow for the possibility that there are many ways to approach life. And what better way to find the right path for yourself than by discovering what other cultures admire as art, how they communicate with each other, and what they enjoy as delicacies. After all, it's the journey that's important to you, not necessarily the destination.Since you're open-minded, you probably enjoy moving from one crowd to another, with equal enthusiasm for all kinds of people. And your natural ability to create a friendly environment for everyone will serve you well wherever your journeys take you. Bon voyage!

Phase I ended last Sunday (6th)
Phase II will finish on May 19th.

Usual detox days: 40.
Total of days since the beginning: 53.
Total of actual detox days: 51 (on Phase I, I ate chocolate cake on day 11 and chocolate almonds on day 12, hence the start of Phase II).

I have a post on draft about this year's temptations and cravings.

Saudades

Saudade (soundtrack to this post)

- Yves Rocher body gel reminds me of the time I lived in Paris*, while working for ITM. I had a customer card for the Yves Rocher shop, which entitled me to monthly gifts and great discounts (like these), so I visited the shop 2-3 times a month.

- I take Juni for a walk near one of the gyms where I teach. The soil, the vegetation, the field relief, it all reminds me of the landscape at the back of the house in Jerusalem.

- '74 - '75 - The Connells. It always, always brings back the memories of my high school years. Life was so easy, so light. Our History teacher (Bélia, I wonder where she is now?) was right. Don't rush, enjoy these leisure times while you have them... :-)

- It's my life - Bon Jovi. East Timor, my first mission, such wonderful memories of so many things, moments, of incredibly special people. Thank you all, wherever you are, I'll never forget you. (Click here for a 'karaoke' version, if you don't know the lyrics.)

"Time goes by, some things never die."
I have these words in my head and keep thinking they are from a certain song, song that I'm unable to recall or to find searching the Internet. I did find Keane using them in two different songs though: Time goes by, some things never die.

* interesting discovery: city daily photo blogs. To explore by the end of the Summer (that's when I'll have time, you'll know why on a later post).
